Introducing, the Christmas Dinner scone that allows you to enjoy Xmas dinner in a single bite
At The Cornish Company, we believe nothing hits the spot like a delicious cream tea or mouth-watering pasty made in Cornwall. While we enjoy these delights year-round, we know that much of the UK does not get the Cornish fix they deserve, especially at Christmas. So, to correct this wrong…we have launched a unique and totally festive!
That’s right, our infamous hampers have received the Xmas treatment - offering all your favourite flavours from Christmas dinner without the time spent preparing, cooking or washing up, for a fraction of the cost.
Our Christmas Dinner scone hamper features; a freshly baked, stuffing-flavoured scone with locally sourced Boddingtons cranberry relish, Cornish turkey and lashings of smooth and aromatic white wine & herb gravy.
Why did we make a Christmas Dinner scone?
We wanted to add a touch of Cornwall to your Christmas dinner plate, so we set out on a quest to find out what the British public really thinks about the traditional festive spread to help us come up with the perfect merry addition.
After surveying more than 1,000 of our lovely customers, we discovered that roast potatoes are the nation's favourite part of Christmas dinner, enjoyed by 62%. Turkey (one of our Christmas hamper stars) came in second, rated highly by half of the respondents. This was followed by the ever-so-festive pigs in blankets. The gravy was also favoured by 42%, the stuffing loved by 37%, while cranberry sauce got a seal of approval from over a quarter.
Once we had these findings, our production team began formulating the perfect crimbo dinner addition. Enter the Christmas scone!
The turkey controversy, half the nation loves it, four in 10 think it's overrated
Perhaps shockingly, despite 50% of Brits thinking Christmas turkey was top trumps, 36% thought it was the most overrated part of your festive feast! That being said, eight in 10 Brits reported that they would not want a meal that did not include the traditional Christmas food items - so hopefully, our delicious festive scone will be a hit even with the turkey doubters.
Tom Woodley, our Founder & Managing Director, said:
“There are few things better in life than tucking into your Christmas dinner surrounded by those nearest and dearest to you.
“With the festive season in full swing, we wanted to give people the opportunity to sample the joy of a Christmas dinner a few weeks early and in a single bite.
“Being proudly based in Cornwall, we were in little doubt there was a better way to achieve this than through a scone that celebrates the nostalgia and comfort of the festive season.
“The scone is cost-effective and totally stress-free to create - we can’t wait for people to try our creation. Who knows, maybe scones will become an unmissable treat around the dinner table this Christmas!”
The average Christmas dinner costs over £100 and causes LOTS of stress
You won’t need reminding that we are living in a continuing cost of living crisis, but, over a third of Brits reported they spend more than £100 on food for their Christmas dinner, and that is not including the alcohol.
Almost three-quarters of people who cooked their Christmas dinner spent three or more hours in the kitchen, time which 70% reported they would have rather spent with friends and family.
Nearly nine in 10 Christmas dinner cooks prepared meals for three people or more, with the timings being the leading cause of stress felt by 38.9% of chefs. This is followed by keeping food warm (38.6%) the second most common cause of stress followed by the post-Christmas clean up (33.2%).
With the Christmas Dinner scone, we have done all the heavy lifting for you. To help everyone unwind, we are offering the best of a traditional dinner at a fraction of the cost and effort. Brits will therefore be able to spend more time with loved ones as they use the time to catch up with family, watch movies and debate whether turkey really does belong on a scone!
A very merry Christmas, 8 in 10 never argue
Despite any cooking or hosting stresses, Christmas dinner was an overwhelmingly positive experience for the vast majority of Brits, with 82% never being involved in or witnessing a Christmas dinner tiff.
Of those who had experienced a Christmas conflict, nearly 50% stemmed from old family tensions and grievances, with a quarter caused by pressure on the host or cook and over one in 10 initiated from differing opinions on how things should have been cooked.
While we believe our Christmas Dinner scone is capable of delicious miracles, settling family tension is not in its repertoire. But, our humble hamper can ease cooking tensions and put to bed debates on how crispy those roast potatoes should have been.
Available to order from Monday, 9th December, Christmas dinner lovers will have to act fast to get their hands on our yummy creation as only a limited number of scone hampers are being sold.
