What Will You Find in a Cornish Company Hamper?

Authored by Tom Woodley

Some folks say Cornish treasures should never cross the Tamar. But we've never been particularly good at doing what we're told.

We're The Cornish Company: founded by two brothers born and buttered in the heart of Cornwall, and proudly on a mission to smuggle our land's finest pasties, cream teas, and dangerously addictive fudge into mouths nationwide. Call it what you like; we call it a delicious rebellion.

Whether you're tucking into golden Cornish pasties by post, treating someone special to a traditional cream tea, or exploring our full pantry of Cornish food and drink, you might be wondering what's actually under the lid.

You may have even noticed our boxes and wraps sporting a fresh, contemporary new look. While our outward presentation has become sharper and cleaner, our dedication to local authenticity remains steadfast. Inside every parcel, you'll find the very same award-winning, independent makers who’ve defined Cornish fare for generations.

Here's an honest, behind-the-scenes look at the makers, flavours, and craft tucked into our Cornish hampers.

Fresh Packaging, Same Champion Makers

When you unbox a delivery from us, you'll spot our custom-designed packaging: clean typography, crisp seafaring blues, and our resident seagull, Steven, keeping a cheeky eye out for stray crumbs. But don't let the sleek new wrapping fool you. We haven't swapped brilliance for mass-market corner cutting.

You can get familiar with everyone behind our pantry on our suppliers page, where we celebrate the farmers, bakers, brewers, and chocolatiers who make what we do possible.

The Cream Tea Champions: Rodda's, Boddington's, and Cornish Tea

You can't talk about traditional Cornish food without touching on our most fiercely defended ritual: the cream tea. We have strong convictions about this. It's jam first. Always. No debate (and if you've ever wondered why our neighbours across the border do it backwards, we've broken down the whole Devon vs Cornwall scones divide for you).

To deliver an unforgettable cream tea experience by post, we rely on three iconic names:

Rodda's Cornish Clotted Cream

Perched in Scorrier near Redruth, Rodda's has been gently scalding rich farm milk since 1890. Cornish clotted cream holds official Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status under DEFRA's protected food scheme. That means it must be crafted from milk produced exclusively in Cornwall and have a minimum butterfat content of 55%. The result is a famous golden, delicate crust over silky, nutty cream. It's the real deal, and nothing else comes close.

Boddington's

Nestled on the picturesque outskirts of Mevagissey, Boddington's Berries has been growing fresh fruit since the 1940s. They craft their Cornish jams in small open pans with no artificial setting agents, using an exceptionally high fruit content of 80g of whole fruit per 100g of conserve. The result is intensely fruity, vibrant, and thick enough to anchor your cream without slipping off the scone.

Cornish Tea & Coffee

Most of our tea & coffee is blended in the coastal village of Liskeard by Cornish Tea & Coffee; they create invigorating brews that anchor our teacups. Their flagship Smugglers Brew is a full-bodied black tea that stands up firmly to rich dairy. For those who prefer a roasted bean with their bake, their roasted coffees work wonders in The Cream Coffee Hamper.

The Craft Bakers: Portreath and Furniss

Baked goods are fragile beasts, so we only source from artisan bakeries that know how to keep crusts golden and crumb structures tender.

Portreath Bakery

Run by Master Baker Marion Symonds, Portreath Bakery brings generations of craft to our speciality gluten-free range. They take pride in honouring the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) guidelines set out by the Cornish Pasty Association, ensuring that every pasty rolled, crimped, and baked meets exacting heritage standards.

Furniss Biscuits

Operating since 1886, Furniss is one of Britain's oldest biscuit makers. Master baker John Cooper Furniss first started baking in Truro city centre, creating the legendary Cornish Fairing: a sweet, spicy ginger biscuit with a distinctive cracked surface and an unforgettable snap. Alongside their iconic Fairings, Furniss crafts rich, buttery shortbreads and savoury sea-salt oatcakes that elevate our hampers from morning tea to after-dinner snacking.

Handcrafted Confectionery: Kernow Chocolate and Buttermilk

For sweet treats, we like our confectionery rich, indulgent, and free from artificial shortcuts. These two Cornish food brands are masters of the craft:

  • Kernow Chocolate: Kernow Chocolate is the county's largest independent artisan chocolatier. Their team blends velvety milk, dark, and white chocolate bars infused with everything from sea salt to orange crisp.
  • Buttermilk Fudge: What began in 1964 as a small fudge shop in the winding streets of Padstow has grown into one of Britain's most celebrated confectionery houses. Buttermilk still uses copper boiling pans and traditional open-flame cooking to achieve that crumbly, melt-in-the-mouth texture across classic clotted cream and salted caramel fudge varieties.

Savoury Stars: Cornish Cheese Co

While sweetness often steals the spotlight, Cornwall's lush pastureland produces exceptional artisanal cheeses.

High on the wild edges of Bodmin Moor, the Cornish Cheese Co produces award-winning Cornish Blue. Handcrafted using milk from the family's pedigree dairy herd, this mild, creamy, and gently veined cheese won World Champion Cheese at the World Cheese Awards.

We pair artisan wedges with savoury bakes in gifts like The Cheese Scone Hamper, matching tangy dairy notes with crisp biscuits and rich chutneys for those who prefer savoury crunch over sweet spreads.

Coastal Cellars: Ales, Ciders, Wines, and Spirits

No proper banquet is complete without a refreshing pour. We partner with the best Cornish brands to keep our bottles crisp, vibrant, and bursting with local character.

Beyond the Picture Postcard: Why We Curate What We Do

Cornwall is so much more than sleepy fishing coves frozen in time. Today's Cornwall is a living, breathing culinary hotspot, driven by innovative taprooms, beachside food festivals, and forward-thinking makers who refuse to settle for second best.

That contemporary energy shapes our hampers. We don't peddle tourist-trap souvenirs or mass-produced sweets churned out hundreds of miles away. As born-and-buttered locals, we act as gatekeepers for the real thing. We spend our days meeting producers, keeping our ear to the ground, and tasting everything firsthand to uncover the county's finest treasures.

If a bake lacks the right flakiness, or a preserve relies on artificial shortcuts, it doesn't make the cut. Every wedge of cheese, freshly baked pasty, and craft bottle in our boxes has earned its spot through genuine quality and unbeatable flavour. We reckon that's the only proper way to share Cornwall with the world.
